Slant Height Formula

Slant Height Formula

Let us first define slant height before studying the slant height formula. The distance along the curved surface, drawn from the edge at the top to a point on the circumference of the circle at the base, is the slant height of an object (such as a cone or pyramid). In other terms, the slant height is the shortest distance between the base and the apex along the solid's surface, represented by s or ?. The slant height formula aids in the computation of any object's slant height.

What do you mean by Slant Height Formula?

Cone and pyramid slant height formulas are commonly defined. These are the details:

Cone Slant Height:

A cone's slant height formula is as follows:

Slant Height Formula

s2= h2 + r2 or, s =Slant Height Formula

Slant Height Formula of Pyramid

Slant Height Formula

(Slant height)2 = (Height)2+(Base/2)2 or, s = Slant Height Formula

  1. In the above two formulas,
  2. s is slant height
  3. h is the vertical height
  4. b is base

Example: A square pyramid's height and base are 8 and 12 metres, respectively. Determine the slant height.

  1. Sol: To find the Slant height of the square pyramid
  2. It is given that Height of the pyramid = 8m
  3. Base of pyramid = 12m
  4. Using the slant height formula,
  5. s2 = (8)2 + (12/2)2
  6. s2 = 100
  7. s = 10m
