About Formula For Adding Fractions
Let us review what fractions are before understanding the formula for adding fractions. Fractions are defined as pieces of a whole in mathematics. A fraction is a piece or section of a whole that can be any number, a specified value, or an item. 1/2, 3/7, 4/5, 6/6, and so on are examples. Different types of fractions exist based on their shape. These are the
- Proper Fraction
- Improper Fraction
- Unit Fraction
- Mixed Fraction
- Equivalent Fractions
- Like Fractions, and
- Unlike Fractions.
What Is the Fraction Adding Formula?
In each of the following circumstances, the formulas for adding fractions differ: adding fractions with whole numbers, adding fractions with like denominators, adding fractions with different denominators, and adding fractions with variables. These are the formulas:
Adding fractions with whole numbers (a+b/c) = [(a×c)+b]/c
Adding fractions with like denominators (a/b+d/b) = (a+d)/b
Adding fractions with different denominators (a/b+c/d) = (a×d+b×c)/(b×d)
Adding fractions with variables (a/b)x+(c/b)x=(a/b+c/b)x = [(a+c)/b]x
Where, a, b, c, and, d are constants and x is a variable.
Example:3/2 and 5 are added using the fractions formula.
Sol: we have to find addition of 3/2 and 5.
Since we have (a+bc) (a+bc) = (a×c) + bc(a×c) + bc
Adding Fractions = [(2×5) + 3]/2
= (10+3)/2 = 13/2
