Range Formula

About Range Formula

The range formula calculates the difference between a collection of numbers' highest and lowest values. The range formula is often used in variability and is usually utilised in statistics where the range is the spread of figures or data from the lowest to the highest value

What Is the Range Formula?

In statistics, the range formula is used to determine the range of values in a data collection. By calculating the difference between the lowest and the highest numbers, the formula aids in establishing the set's centre. The larger the range of a distribution, the higher the variability, and the smaller the range, the lower the variability. Other statistics such as mean, median, and mode are included in the range formula. As a result, the formula for calculating the range is as follows:

  1. R = Highest Value (H)-- Lowest Value (L)
  2. Range Formula
  3. R = H - L

Where,

  • R is the range
  • H is the highest value
  • L is the lowest value

Range Formula(R) = Highest Value(H) - Lowest Value (L)

Steps to applying Formula?

There are two mean stages to take to compute the range using the range formula:

  • Step 1: Place all numbers from lowest to the highest value in the data set
  • Step 2: By using the range formula, subtract the lowest value from the highest value picked from the data set

These procedures can be applied to any number, including whole numbers and fractions. If the numbers in the data set are positive or negative, the range formula can be employed.
