Full form of CDMA

Full form of CDMA

"Code Division Multiple Access" is the full form of CDMA. It is a channel access method and an example of multiple access. Multiple access defined as data can be transmitted simultaneously on a single communication channel through multiple transmitters.

CDMA variant codes are issued or allocated to multiple users; thus, users can easily access the entire frequency band or bandwidth. This technique does not limit the user's frequency range. So you can share the frequency band using CDMA without unnecessary interference between multiple users. Along with ADC (analog to digital conversion), CDMA allows the use of spectrum technology.

Brief History about CDMA

  • For a long time, CDMA software was used. In 1935, Dmitry Ageev addressed this topic for the first time.
  • During World War II, CDMA was also used to stop jamming attempts.
  • It is applied in the military sector, used in the shooting, anti-jamming, etc.
  • In 1957, it was used by Leonid Kupriyanovich when he was creating an automated design for a wearable mobile phone.
  • Finally, in 1993, specifications for CDMA technology were approved by TIA (Telecommunications Industry Association).
  • In September 1998, sixteen million users were registered to use CDMA systems. Today, CDMA is supported by 22 countries.

Features of CDMA

  • It allows multiple users to communicate at a defined time and thus offers increased voice and data communication capacity.
  • Many channels in CDMA use the full spectrum.
  • CDMA systems use power management to reduce interference and noise, thereby increasing network efficiency.
  • CDMA encodes user traffic to protect its signals into separate and special codes.
  • All cells in CDMA systems can also use the same frequency.
  • In the CDMA system, there is also no fixed limit on the number of subscribers, but the performance decreases as the number of subscribers increases.

Applications

  • It is used in the GPS (Global Positioning System)
  • Several cell phone firms use this technology
  • The UTMS 3 G cell phone standard uses W-CDMA.
  • CDMA was used in the OmniTRACS transportation satellite system.

Categories of CDMA

  • Synchronous CDMA (orthogonal codes)
  • Asynchronous CDMA (pseudorandom codes)
