Full form of GUI

The full form of a GUI is a Graphical User Interface. A GUI is a user-friendly interface that helps electronic devices communicate. It displays all the content a user needs to imagine, be it a text file, entity, images or videos. It works well and can be used everywhere, including mobile phones, tablets, laptops, personal computers and all other electronic equipment. It may also be included where the resolution is shown in the gaming aspect.

History

  • Before, there was no GUI, so people used CLI (Command Line Interface) to communicate.
  • The CLI was not that pleasant to use and all the commands were not familiar to the end user. So an interface was implemented to bridge this void.
  • The primary goal of the GUI was to make applications even more user-friendly.
  • People love it when the task they want to do is completed quickly and efficiently.
  • The GUI emphasizes that "ease of use" is one of the essential aspects.
  • The original operating model of the machine focused on the graphical user interface was the Xerox 8010 information system.
  • It was designed and built at Xerox PARC by Alan Kay, Douglas Engelbart and their associates.
  • Frequently requested GUIs are Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X up to 2014.
  • Apple IOS and Google Android GUI interfaces are commonly used in mobile devices.

Basic GUI components

The required components and their functions are listed below.

  • Pointer

It is the mark that appears on the screen. The pointer continues to select objects and commands.

  • Pointing tool

Allows the user to move the pointer and select objects such as a trackball or mouse on the display screen.

  • Icons

It refers to the small images on the screen that represent commands, documents, windows, etc. The user can execute such commands using a pointer and a pointing device.

  • Desktop

It is the screen that is contained in the icons.

Features of GUI

  • The GUI is user friendly, that means very convenient to use.
  • The GUI contains several features, including tabs, menus, pointers, and several other types of items
  • Icons in the user interface reflect software, a document, or several appropriate programs.

Advantages of GUI

  • The user interface is very simple and straightforward for beginners.
  • It is very accessible and intuitive, anyone can use it.
  • End users require that they memorize instructions for a program to perform operations.
  • GUI limitations
  • A bad interface is still a problem for players because it affects them negatively.
  • A user-unfriendly interface will confuse users and reduce the efficiency of completing work.
