Full form of ISI

"Indian Standards Institute is the full form of ISI". ISI was established to set standards for the proper growth of industries and to maintain the efficiency of industrial production. It offers the ISI mark, which is a mark of compliance with standards for industrial products in India. It is by far the most common and identified certification mark in the entire Indian subcontinent. It was renamed as Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) in 1987.

History of the ISI

  • The ISI was founded on January 6, 1947, and in June 1947, Dr. Lal C. Verman as the first director of the ISI.
  • ISI is also known as BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards). It establishes quality standards for consumer and industrial goods. It verifies the quality and standard of each product and awards it a certification mark.
  • Under the 1986 legislation, BIS is authorized to provide certification.
  • ISI marking is mandatory for sale of certain products in India. Any of the manufacturing company that meets the BIS criteria for its service or product can qualify for ISI certification.

There are several products in the market with fake ISI marks. They use fake ISI marks on their products without actually getting the original certification from BIS. Therefore, it is recommended to be very careful when choosing products.
