The full form of JEE is the Joint Entrance Examination. JEE is a national level entrance exam for engineering courses held every year across India. It is a test that helps students secure a place in various technical colleges depending on their position in this exam.
The JEE exam consists of two different tests
- JEE Main
- JEE Advanced
Earlier AIEEE test was conducted for admission to Indian engineering colleges but now it is replaced by JEE-Main and IIT-JEE has become JEE-Advanced. Candidates who clear the JEE Main exam will appear for the JEE Advanced test.
Eligibility Criteria for JEE
For JEE Main
- The requirement for this test is to get at least 75 percent marks in class 12 (CBSE, ISC, board etc.).
- Otherwise, students should be in the top 20 percentile of their 12th class examination conducted by their board.
- The eligibility requirements for SC or ST applicants is to score at least 65 percent in their class 12 board exams.
For JEE Advance
A student must get a rank below 2,50,000 in JEE Main to appear in JEE Advanced.
Only these candidates would have a chance to get seat in IIT colleges for B.tech courses.
About JEE Examination
- JEE consists of two exams; JEE Main and JEE Advanced. The JEE Advanced test is considered one of the most difficult entrance tests at the undergraduate level.
- JEE Main is an aptitude test which enables applicants to appear in the JEE preliminary test and ultimately leads to admission in NITs, IITs etc.
- The JEE Main test is conducted in two sessions in a year and the number of admission attempts for a particular academic session is assumed to be one. Candidate can choose one paper or both. JEE Exam is conducted online.
- The exam is three hours long, consists of three subjects and consists of 30 MCQs (Multiple Choice Questions) covering Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. There is a negative score for a wrong answer.
- Paper 1 for BE and B.Tech enrollment, Paper 2 for B.Arch enrollment and Paper 3 for B.Planning courses.
- Candidates can appear for three consecutive years of JEE Main but only two consecutive years for JEE Advanced exams.
- The cut-off marks for JEE Main is decided by exam conducting body NTA (National Testing Agency) and varies depending on the category like General, OBC, SC & St and PWD.
