Full form of PDA

The full form of a PDA is Personal Digital Assistant. A PDA is a handheld computer without a keyboard, but with a screen for writing or drawing text using a pen-like stylus. They can write notes, read graphs, link, record and access the Internet. Another name for PDA is palmtop or pocket computer.

Many PDAs started out as pen-based, using a stylus instead of a keyboard for input purposes. It means they have even added handwriting recognition apps. Many PDAs also use voice recognition technology to respond to voice inputs. PDAs include either a stylus or a keyboard.

Important features of PDA

  • It can have either one or two keys to generate shortcuts to the desired applications. Otherwise, the user touches the pen or uses it to write text.
  • Older PDAs did not use a memory port, but now some PDAs may also have a memory card port and a USB drive port.
  • Previously, PDAs were able to connect to PCs through serial ports and other devices. Now they use a USB cable to connect them.
  • PDAs include Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, which are wireless.
  • Many PDAs may have built-in GPS, but some may include an external GPS link.
  • Rugged PDAs provide several additional features such as radio frequency readers, barcode readers, smart card and magnetic stripe card readers.

Advantages

  • Extensive internet connection: For busy people, the primary space to get a PDA is the ability to stay connected through e-mail, calls, content notification, and various delivery apps.
  • Professional organizer: For many people, having a PDA makes them more organized with their schedules, notes, and records.

Disadvantages

  • High price: There are only a few disadvantages to owning or using a PDA, but the most glaring one is that it is extremely expensive to acquire, and buyers also often have to pay for a membership or system agreement.
  • Distraction: PDAs can also turn into interruptions when not being used for a real need. Being constantly connected to the internet can now and again lead to many long periods of surfing redundant sites or playing web games.
