Full form of SSLC

The full form of the SSLC is "Secondary School Leaving Certificate". SSLC is a certificate that students receive after completing their high school studies. Generally, it is a qualifying examination which is most common in India for admission to higher secondary school. Students can get their matriculation certificate after passing the 10th class public examination, usually referred to as 10th class board exams.

In India, the school system is categorized as

  • The first five years of the education system are called elementary school.
  • The next five years, from 6th to 10th grade, are called secondary school.
  • After the 10th grade, i.e. 11th and 12th grade, is called pre-university or high school, after this grade students can apply for a field of study.

The SSLC certificate was used as the primary form of proof for date of birth during the period when registration of deaths and births was not compulsory in India. People who were born before 1989, 10th grade are considered as evidence for DOB. SSLC is common in international markets which is a general qualification exam and also in several states in India especially Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

Education  opportunity after SSLC exam

  • After obtaining the SSLC degree, a student may be eligible for higher secondary or pre-university which is generally called +2 education sector in India.
  • After passing the 12th class exams, students can apply for any undergraduate degree program at any university of the student's choice.
  • On the other hand, after receiving the SSLC, the student decides or agrees to be enrolled in a technical school where the individual can be qualified for a professional career.
  • Other alternatives include entering a polytechnic for a three-year engineering diploma and then seeking an engineering degree beforehand.
  • There is an opportunity to enter vocational training programs after the student completes the SSLC.
  • SSLC or similar are needed nowadays for job targets to get a passport under Indian Govt.

SSLC (CBSE) Format

  • The applicant's name is written in the upper part of the matriculation certificate under the name of the educational committee.
  • The applicant's registration number is written on the side of the name.
  • The parents' names follow the applicant's name.
  • The name of the school/institution is what follows the parent's name in SSLC.
  • This is followed by the table of marks and marks of the subjects chosen by the candidate for the examination.
  • The meaning of the various abbreviations is governed by the table in the lower left corner and the final result (passed/failed) is written on the page of the meanings of the abbreviations.
  • Finally, the date and city are written at the bottom left, the signature of the examiner is added at the bottom right.

SSLC Importance

When birth and death documentation was not mandatory in India, the SSLC certificate was used as the primary identification framework for date of birth.
People born before 1989 are still a legitimate way for Indian civil authorities to verify their date of birth in order to issue public documents such as passports, according to the MEA website.
