NTSE stands for "National Talent Search Examination" as the name suggests it is a national level examination which was first started in 1963. The purpose of this national talent search examination i.e. NTSE is to find talented students all over the country they are students, who have extraordinary intellect and therefore by finding such students, NCERT provides financial support to the students, mostly in the form of scholarships.
The exam is taken offline, meaning students have to go to an exam center, and is conducted by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT). There are no descriptive questions in the exam, so all questions are objective. The questions come in bilingual i.e. English and Hindi.
Eligibility Criteria for NTSE

- NTSE candidates must be citizens of India.
- Candidate must be a class 10 student from a recognized private or government school in India.
- If an applicant is under 18 years of age and studying in class 10 at an open or distance school, they can also apply.
Important things to know about NTSE
- Each year approximately 12 to 14 thousand students appear for the exam. Out of this only five thousand students will be selected for Phase 2.
- Out of these five thousand students, only one thousand are selected for the NTSE scholarship.
- These thousand scholarships are awarded at various levels of education i.e. Rs. 1250 per month for class 11 and 12.
- Scholarship of Rs. 2,000 is fixed for undergraduate and postgraduate students and for PhD students as per UGC norms.

- Every year the first phase of NTSE exam is held in November and the result is declared in January while the 2nd phase exam is held in May. The result of the 2nd stage is usually announced in August.
