Full form of SHO

The full form of SHO is Station House Officer. The SHO is the head or person in charge of the local police station. He supervises the operation of the police station and is responsible for maintaining public order in his region. His insignia for the division is three stars on the shoulder strap. A group of constables, head constables and SIs work under him.

Duties of the SHO

  • The Act allows the Station House Officer to conduct criminal investigations in India and attend court on behalf of the police station.
  • Becoming a part of the Indian Police is considered one of the most respected statuses in India.
  • He supervises the activities of the police station and is responsible for maintaining law and order in his area.
  • The SHO is responsible for the efficient operation of the police station as well as for supervising the police officers who work there in subordinate roles.

SHO qualification criteria

  • The minimum qualification to become a police sub-inspector is a bachelor's degree. Candidates must be a graduate in any discipline with 50% marks from any recognized college / institute. Those people who pass out from 12th standard will not be qualified to get SI posts in the police department.
