Functions are an important part of mathematics that relates the variables x and y. Functions are commonly written as y = f(x), which expresses y's dependency on x, or that y is a function of x. The mathematical rules that relate one set of elements to another are defined by function formulas. These function formulas can be used to accomplish a wide range of functional operations.

What is the list of Function Formulas?

Formulae for conducting multiple arithmetic operations across functions, as well as formulas for performing combination operations involving 2 or more functions, can be found in the list of function formulas.

Formula 1
The addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division arithmetic operations can be conveniently performed over functions in the same way that they can be performed across integers. The two functions that the following arithmetic operations are done across are f(x) and g(x).

  • (f + g)(x) = f(x) + g(x)
  • (f - g)(x) = f(x) - g(x)
  • (αf)(x) = αf(x)
  • (fg)(x) = f(x).g(x)
  • (f/g)(x) = f(x)/g(x)

Formula 2
Within a formula, composite function attributes contain two or more functions.The function f(x), g(x), h(x) are combined to form composite functions gof(x), hog(x), ho(gof)(x).

  • gof(x) = g(f(x))
  • ho(gof)(x) = (hog)of(x)
