Conditions Treated by an ENT specialist/otolaryngologist

If someone suffers from acne, they visit a dermatologist; if they have problems related to menstruation, they consult a gynecologist. Similarly, when a person has an ear, nose, or throat disease, they consult an ENT specialist. ENT doctors treat various conditions, and here is a list of common ENT conditions.

Some of the common conditions that ENTs specialize in are:

  1. Laryngitis- An infection of the voice box in humans, followed by irritation and inflammation, is called laryngitis. Dry throat, sore throat, and hoarseness in voice are some of the symptoms of laryngitis.
  2. Dysphagia- Dysphagia is known as difficulty swallowing food and liquids. Pain when swallowing food and the feeling that food cannot pass through the throat are common symptoms of dysphagia.
  3. Ear Infection- Pain in the ear is caused by inflammation. There can be many reasons for an ear infection; most infections are viral or bacterial. Ear infections should be treated immediately, as neglect can lead to hearing loss.
  4. Snoring- Although snoring is not a real disease, many people face problems with it. Snoring is a hoarse sound that occurs when a person sleeps. It occurs when air passes through loose tissues, and they vibrate as they do so.
  5. Facial surgery- ENT specialists are equipped to treat facial deformities caused by accidents, etc.; they also perform cleft surgeries. Any facial trauma caused can be treated by ENT specialists. They also perform cosmetic surgery.
  6. Pediatrics- ENT specialists also specialize in the treatment of children. Sensory development in newborns and children requires attention. ENT doctors solve possible problems related to delayed development or congenital defects.
  7. Swimmer's ear- Swimmer's ear is an infection caused by water remaining in the ear while swimming. Moisture in the ear promotes the growth of bacteria or fungi and causes inflammation and pain in the ear.
  8. Sleep apnea- It is a disorder in which a person stops breathing while sleeping. This can be a serious sleep condition that requires immediate medical attention. Gasping during sleep, followed by a headache in the morning, are some common symptoms of sleep apnea. Loud snoring is one of them.
