About the UP Board Class 12 History Syllabus

History is a vital subject in the UP Board Class 12 Arts stream. It helps students understand the past and its connection to the present, covering political, social, cultural, and economic developments. The syllabus is designed to provide a comprehensive view of Indian history as well as world history.

Syllabus Overview

The History syllabus for Class 12 is divided into three main parts:

  1. Ancient Indian History: Covers the Harappan Civilization, the  Vedic age, the Mauryan Empire, the Gupta period, and cultural advancements.

  2. Medieval Indian History: Focuses on the Delhi Sultanate, Mughal Empire, Bhakti and Sufi movements, and regional kingdoms.

  3. Modern Indian & World History: Includes the Revolt of 1857, Indian National Movement, independence struggle, and world events like the World Wars, industrial revolution, and decolonization.

Marking Scheme

The History paper is of 100 marks, generally divided as follows:

  • Ancient & Medieval History – 30 marks

  • Modern History – 40 marks

  • World History & Map Work – 20 marks

  • Short/long answer questions & source-based questions – 10 marks

Importance of History

Class 12 History is not just about memorization; it develops analytical thinking and the ability to link events. It also helps students prepare for competitive exams like UPSC, PCS, and other civil services where historical knowledge plays a key role.
